Our 4 Main Purposes for Existence

  1. Introduce people to Jesus Christ. This is known as EVANGELISM.

  2. Provide an open atmosphere to WORSHIP Jesus in spirit and in truth.

  3. Help all believers to grow in their faith = DISCIPLESHIP.

  4. We look for opportunities to reach out with COMPASSION for others in need so that we might build bridges to Christ Jesus.

Our Vision Statement for Mt Zion

We strive to be an effective fellowship where people can find the Biblical virtues of love, faith and hope, teaching them to be effective in evangelism, discipleship and true worship.

The Bible Is Our Guide

It is the STANDARD RULE of faith for all believers, who consider its words to be inspired (God breathed through sanctified men). Therefore, it has timeless value, divinely designated, to be a guide for all cultures and generations. We, literally, believe in the miracles and events recorded in the Holy Bible and that they are still for today. Quoting from Paul’s words to Timothy , as found in II Timothy 3:16, we find these words: “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God. It is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction for instruction in righteousness.” Those WHO reverently study it “may be COMPLETED in maturity, thoroughly furnished unto all good works: as stated in the following verse 17.

Our Core Beliefs

We live in a fallen world, shattered as a result of sin. It’s destructive effects are easily evidenced in every aspect of our lives. However, God loves each of us; therefore, HE gave us HIS only begotten Son to die on the cross in order to pay the full payment for our sins. We are only required to believe on this so that we may have a continued relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. As a result, we that believe in the sufficiency of HIS sacrifice upon the cross, receive forgiveness for our sins and freedom from the effects of spiritual death. The Bible teaches that this gift of salvation (known as “being born again”) brings eternal life of rest plus reward, in the presence of Jesus, to those who have continued in relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.

EVANGELICAL AND PENTECOSTAL

We are notably classified as Evangelical. This means that we place highest priority possible on believing in the every word inspiration of the Holy Scriptures. We dedicate ourselves to the mission to win others to come enter into a relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, wherein HE is both Lord and Savior. Not only are we Evangelical but we are known, also, as classical Pentecostals in faith and practice.

Distinctive Power For Living

We believe in the Baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues as in Acts 2. We believe that this gift gives believers several benefits as indicated in the New Testament. These include power to witness, a more effective personal prayer life, fervent dedication to the Divine Kingdom, intense love for Christ plus HIS Word, and a greater desire to yield to the spiritual gifts as mentioned in Acts 2. We believe that when a believer is filled with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, that it is evidenced by speaking in supernatural languages, given by the Holy Spirit. We believe that the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is for every believer. It isn’t a requirement for salvation; however, it is a gift that is given to empower the believer in their walk with God, giving them boldness to tell others about Jesus. We believe that the spiritual gifts listed in 1st Corinthians 12:8-10 are still in operation in the body of Christ as we yield to the Holy Spirit’s prompting in the assembly and in personal evangelism.

Our Style of Worship

We invite people to worship the Lord with their whole hearts, minds, souls and spirits. We want to create an atmosphere of FREEDOM of worship. This includes singing praises and shouting to the Lord, raising and clapping of hands in praise, tapping the toes or dancing or kneeling before our Lord Jesus Christ. Worshipping the Lord with all of our might. He is WORTHY of our praise and worship.

Our Biblical Framework Structure

The Lord Jesus Christ is the HEAD of our church. HIS life is the pattern for all ministry and conduct of the church., Ephesians 5:23 and Colossians 1:18. Our pastor is elected, locally, by our church membership. He leads through preaching and teaching of the Word of God, as well as by example. Our pastor is, also, responsible for much of the public ministry, plus daily functions. We, also, elect a group of board members to assist the pastor in spiritual matters, as well as, helping take care of business operations of the church. Our church is a self-governing fellowship and has a clear title to our buildings and property. We develop local ministry outreaches. We follow our doctrinal statement and do everything possible to maintain a Biblical approach to ministry.

Our Affiliation Shape

Our church is affiliated with Elim Fellowship, based in Lima, NY, a fellowship of local churches across several parts of the U.S.A. Beyond the needs of our community, we are involved in a larger global missions endeavor designed to assist in reaching the whole world with the gospel.

Our History of Origins

Elim Fellowship grew out of notable Pentecostal revivals and significant events beginning in the early 1900’s. Charles Parham asked some 20 students to his Topeka, Kansas Bible School to study the subject of why the missionary movement was not as strong, then, as in the first few centuries A..D. , as recorded in the book of Acts. Another contributing factor was the Azusa Street Mission in Los Angeles, California. This Pentecostal movement has grown from a small group of students in Topeka, Kansas to an estimated 600 million Spirit filled believers, today.

Reason for Unifying Together

Many participants, who were baptized in the Holy Spirit, were not welcomed back to their former churches. They could not deny their fresh experience in Christ that gave them great joy and boldness. Many new local churches were started. Soon, they considered banding together for helpful fellowship, plus doctrinal unity. Other concerns were about appropriate stewardship of missionaries, developing materials to help the churches with its local department ministries and forming Bible Colleges. Ivan Spencer was instrumental in getting Elim Bible Institute started.
